One Small World

Hello, Hola, Ahoj, Konichiwa, Privet, Salut, Ciao, Hallo, NiHao, Labas, An Nyoung!

Eleven countries, eleven languages, are respresented above. That doesn't even BEGIN to cover the nationalities represented at AUM. Auburn University Montgomery is diverse, bringing in students from all over the world. Sometimes the countries are represented in ones or twos, as is the case with our few Romanian students; sometimes as many as twenty, as is the case with our Icelandic-dominant soccer teams. Every so often, we have a country that is VERY well represented at AUM, as is the case with our South Korean students. We have such a good representation of SK students here because AUM has a sister college in South Korea, the University of Ulsan.

That's where I'm going this summer. South Korea, to our sister school, the University of Ulsan. Kati Chapman is my name, and I've attended AUM since I was a freshman. I'm a senior now, graduating in December 09' with a double major in International Business Economics and Marketing, minor en espanol. I've been across most of Europe, west and east, and most of the Caribbean (though those weren't strictly business trips). But now, I am going to a new continent, to Asia, to study and to learn what I can. Taking classes from Hyundai execs and learning a whole new alphabet, a whole new language. For one whole month, submerged in a different culture, a culture that is almost diametrically opposite the US on its Hofstede cultural dimensions. It's going to be different. It's going to be new. It's going to be the AUM/Ulsan experience of a lifetime. Vamos!
